Portraits of displacement
As part of OCHA's global photo project, What We Share, photographer Rawsht Twana, in collaboration with photographer Stefano Carini, captured a series of portraits of people from northern Iraq who have experienced displacement. These images reveal the common threads that tie displaced people's experiences, memories and histories together.
"In my photographic research over the past years, I have documented the lives of refugees and internally displaced people in Iraq. With the aid of archival images, I want to explore displacement as an overarching, continuous and dynamic phenomenon.
Ultimately, my goal is to unite our experiences within the same narrative, for what we share here—both displaced and host communities—is nothing if not our lives, our history and our memories." - Rawsht Twana
